Loam LLC runs votes.at and is responsible for the information on this page. Send questions and requests to privacy@votes.at.
Your stances are public
When you take a stance, it’s saved to your own Bluesky (Atmosphere) account. Anyone can see it, the same as a post, and other apps on the network can read and show it. votes.at shows stances people saved with other apps, too. If you want a stance kept private, don’t take it here. Whoever hosts your account has its own privacy policy, like Bluesky’s.
What we keep
When you sign in, we keep your account ID, your handle, and the access your account gave votes.at so we can save stances for you. That access only reaches votes.at’s own data. We can’t read or change your posts or messages.
We also keep a copy of public stances so pages load fast. When a stance is deleted from someone’s account, we delete our copy.
When you look up a ballot, your address goes to Election.org to find your contests. We don’t save or log the address. We do save the list of contests, but it isn’t linked to you.
Cookies
We use three cookies, none for advertising or tracking:
- One keeps you signed in, for up to 30 days.
- One remembers your handle so signing in again is one click. It lasts 400 days, or until you choose to unlink your account from votes.at.
- One lasts 10 minutes while you sign in, to finish the sign-in safely.
Third parties
- Cloudflare hosts the site and its database, and keeps request logs for 7 days.
- Election.org gets the address you look up, to find your contests.
- Bluesky serves profile pictures and names, so it sees those requests from your browser.
- Counterscale counts page views. We run it ourselves on Cloudflare, and it uses no cookies.
We don’t sell your data, show ads, or send marketing email. Cloudflare runs servers around the world, and Election.org is in the United States, so your information may be handled outside the country you live in.
Security
The site only loads over HTTPS, and scripts on the page can’t read its cookies. Our database keeps a scrambled form of your sign-in cookie, so the cookie can’t be rebuilt from it. If you find a security problem, email security@votes.at.
Deleting your data
Delete a stance on votes.at, or with any app that can manage your account, and we remove our copy too. To delete all of it at once, use “Disconnect Atmosphere account from votes.at and remove all votes.at records” at the bottom of your home page. Signing out ends your session.
We can’t delete your account or your handle, which belong to you and whoever hosts your account, or copies of your stances that other apps and network servers already made.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, or ask us to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Your stances already live in your own account, so you can take them anywhere. If you’re in the EU, the UK, or another place with a data protection law, you can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
votes.at isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their information. If you think a child has used it, let us know.
Changes
If this policy changes, we’ll update the date above. If votes.at changes hands, this policy goes with it.
